Pumpkin Patch

We brought the kids to the pumpkin patch this weekend to pick out their pumpkins. Saturday was hosted by our school so we saw a few friends there. Hayden and Mason came too and enjoyed playing in the pumpkin patch.

Tyler’s Fanclub

Several uncles and aunties came up from LA this weekend to celebrate Birdie’s birthday. The kids enjoyed their company and all the extra attention they got. They all went to Tyler’s football game today too where he showed off a few great plays!

Catwalk 2013

The annual walk-a-thon at the kids’ school was on Saturday. We spent most of the day there and the kids enjoyed hanging out with their friends and having snacks and treats. Tyler finished all 49 laps, but Nat only did about half. She was too busy socializing with her friends.

Chinese School

We brought the kids to sit in on a Chinese class this evening at a local high school. I sat in on Tyler’s class with him. The classes are from 7-9pm on Fridays. Both liked their classes so I’ll be registering them next week! Let’s see how long their excitement lasts…

What’s Tax?

Funny conversations that happened yesterday:

Tyler: Mom, guess what? Dexter is going to Singapore next week for a week!
Me: Oh lucky. He gets to miss school for a week?
Tyler: Yeah
Nat: Can we do something like that too?
Me: No, it’s too expensive. Dexter’s dad is probably going on a business trip and his family gets to go along. His company will pay for it.
Nat: How come you and Dad don’t go on business trips?
Me: Dexter’s dad is a business manager so he gets to go to other places to help build the business.
Tyler: When I grow up, I’m going on business trips.

Separate conversation later that day.
Nat: When you buy the rubber bands, you will also have to pay tax.
Tyler: What’s tax?
Nat: Extra money

A Good Person

This morning I took the kids to a music store to buy some piano lesson books. There was 1 man working there and when we arrived he was playing an electric piano. He helped us find the books we needed and also showed us another book that was the nutcracker music at Natalie’s current learning level, but she wasn’t really interested in it. The man asked how our day was going and said that the kids were welcome to play on the instruments if we had time. So I let them. Nat played on the electric piano and Tyler played on the drums. Both of them had a really good time and the man showed them different ways to use the instruments. When we were ready to go, I went to the counter to pay for the piano lesson books and the man GAVE us the nutcracker music book. I was so pleasantly surprised. Later on in the car, both kids commented on what a nice man he was.

The Watermelon

David and Natalie decided to pluck the big watermelon yesterday. It was BIG! The inside was not really red and it wasn’t really sweet but ok. I think it was a little too ripe.

Gracie’s Dance Competition

Cousin Grace is in town with her Song team for a dance competition at Great America. The competition was yesterday and we spent the day there watching the show then riding some rides. Her team did a really great job!

There were some Halloween activities for the kids so they got to do some trick or treating with the Snoopy gang.

Nat’s Data Presentation

Nat’s classroom has been working on a project to collect and present data. Their topic is “How to make the school better” and Nat’s particular study is “How to make lunch better.” She surveyed 27 kids at school and made a graph in excel to present her data. The teacher invited us in this morning to watch the presentations. At the end of each presentation, the students were allowed to ask questions and then comment on what they liked about the presentation. All of them had nice comments for each other.
