婆婆 and 公公 visit

婆婆 and 公公 came to visit us this past weekend.

We took the opportunity to take an updated Chiu family picture

Everyone came over for dinner to celebrate 婆婆’s birthday. We had a nice dinner with a variety of food.

Party Time

We finally got around to having a small birthday party for Tyler today. He and his friends have been busy with sports but now that they have a break, we were able to get the boys together for some play time today. Tyler wanted to go to Dave & Buster’s again like last year. The boys had a good time together. One even commented, “Best birthday party ever!” While we were eating lunch, Tyler thanked me for setting up the party for him. He was really happy.

After Dave & Buster’s, we went to Yogurtland and then the boys played basketball and video games at home until they got picked up.

JV Volleyball

Nat made her middle school’s JV volleyball team. She was pretty excited about it since she tried out last year and didn’t make it. About 100 girls tried out and only about ~40 girls were selected between JV and varsity. Two of her good friends made the team too. She’s been really enjoying practicing and playing games with the team.

Birdie and Wileen came to one of her home games too. Nat was pretty excited to have people come watch her play.

Happy Birthday Tyler

Happy 11th Birthday Tyler! We surprised Tyler this morning with a small cake, balloons, and a present. He was excited it was his birthday. At school, his class sang him the birthday song and for dinner we ate at Five Guys. He originally wanted Pho, but we didn’t have time since he had to go to Chinese School.

After Chinese school, a few local aunties, uncles, and cousins met at Yogurtland and surprised Tyler for his birthday. He was very surprised and happy. Thanks to everyone that came out!

Ski Week 2017

Last week, the kids had President’s week (AKA Ski Week) off. We headed to Tahoe for 4 days with other cousins who had the week off too. At first I was worried about the road conditions with all the storms we’ve been having, but the drive both ways was smooth. While we were there though, that’s another story. It snowed the entire time we were there! It snowed probably 5-7 feet in the few days we were there. It was the most snow I’d seen in my entire life. Our plan was to hang out and do fun stuff on Monday and go skiing on Tuesday. It ended up snowing so much on Monday and there was a traffic jam due to an avalanche which closed Hwy 50, we stayed home and the kids played outside and went sledding and made snowmen. On Tuesday morning, the snow had a brief pause. We drove over to Sierra only to get turned away. The resort was closed due to high winds and falling trees! We had planned to go home Wednesday morning, instead we went back to the ski report (open!) and skied most of the day and then drove home. The weather was perfect on Wednesday! Sunny most of the day and only snowed a little bit toward the afternoon.

We celebrated Kaiya’s birthday while we were there

On Tuesday, we made an attempt to go to Heavenly for ice skating. It was snowing so heavy, everything was closed!

The morning we were set to leave, our driveway had so much snow! All the dads had to shovel the driveway so we could get the cars out of the garage

Here’s a video of the kids (Tyler, Theo, and Kaiya) skiing, taken by Uncle Mike
