Cherry Picking

It’s cherry season! An orchard in Gilroy opened for U-Pick on Friday, so we went down today with the Chiu cousins to pick some. The kids had fun eating and picking cherries. I was surprised with their perseverance given how hot and sunny it was. Natalie, Tyler, and Kaiya were focused on getting the best possible cherries!

Before we were able to get a ladder, Natalie lifted Kaiya up so she could pick some cherries.

Biography Project

For his 5th grade biography project, Tyler chose Benjamin Franklin. He had to research him, write a paper and do an oral presentation to his class. On Friday, the class had a “Biography Tea.” Parents were invited to come meet all the historical figures and interview them.

At first, Tyler was embarrassed to wear the wig. He was afraid of being laughed at. But after seeing some other kids wearing wigs, he decided to wear his. He was glad he did. He said manny people gave him compliments.

Here he is being interviewed by one of the parents.

Another Funny Comment

This afternoon when I picked up the kids, Tyler said to his sister as they were getting into the car, “Let’s look at cats when we get home.”

This made me laugh.

They both really want a dog or a cat. But I really don’t want a pet to have to take care of. Our beta fish is good enough.

Mother’s Day 2017

True to tradition, the kids and David got up early this morning and made a huge Mother’s Day breakfast. David was the chef, Nat was the sous chef, and Tyler was the entertainment. (And by entertainment I mean he played music for them, organized the dining table, and kept me in my room until they were ready.)

Tyler said to me, “快乐 妈妈的天!” Which directly translated is Happy Mother’s Day. But that’s not how it’s said. The correct phrase is “母亲节快乐!” At least he understands enough Chinese to put words together to make a phrase. I understood what he meant. 🙂

Some of the breakfast items. Nat made these yogurt parfaits and white chocolate covered strawberries!

A gift from Tyler

It’s a “Feel Good Jar.” There are notes inside to make me feel good if I need it.

Nat made this amazing chocolate cake! She stayed up til 1am last night making it. She’s a perfectionist.

More gifts from the kids. Nat made the picture frame and both kids decorated a flower pot and chose flowers of their choice for me. Tyler’s is a lavender plant. He knows I love the smell of lavender!

Snacking on Mangoes

Last night, David cut the kids some mangoes which they love. They were sitting at the dining table and chatting while they snacked. They often chat like buddies and I’m glad they haven’t grown out of each other. I secretly video’d them while they were eating.

Hiking with Moby

Over the weekend, Moby came over to visit us and we went on a short hike at a trail near our house. Tyler and Nat had fun walking with Moby. We didn’t do a long hike because Moby’s short legs were walking to slow and he was being lazy!

Moby got tired and found a shady area in the grass to rest, so we took a picture with him
