We celebrated Po Po’s birthday tonight with a FaceTime party since we’re all social distancing. It got pretty chaotic with a total of 14 lines joined, even with Uncle Fe Ju all the way from Macau!
Month: March 2020
Twins
All this extra sleep Tyler has been getting since we’re in quarantine has helped him grow faster. He’s about 1/2 inch shy from his sister. I’m going to pass them off as twins while I can.
CV Quarantine Day 6
Today was basically a lot less of what we’ve been doing this past week. We all slept in today… I think I got out of bed around 10. Nat got out of bed at noon…. and all of us (except for Tyler) did a 24hr fast as a challenge. We stopped eating at 6:30 last night, so aimed to not eat until 6:30 tonight. It wasn’t bad and the hardest part was the 23rd hour, but we made it! By then, Nat and I were very hungry!
We played a little Tetris on the switch today
Had some fun FaceTime chats with Birdie and Wileen (I learned we could do this today!)
Dinner: Poke take out from Aloha Fresh. Nat’s volleyball coach reached out to her team for support and offered free delivery. Apparently he’s a partial owner, so we took him up on is offer and ordered a variety of poke for dinner. Everything was really good!
Nat and I also recorded two new Tik Tok videos today.
CV19 Quarantine Day 5
TGIF! Or does it even matter?!
Here’s a rare sight…Tyler borrowed some books from the library last weekend. He seems to be really into this one.
For school lunch today, Nat picked a turkey wrap and Tyler picked orange chicken with rice. Both said their lunches were not good. The breakfast they got were Belvita breakfast biscuits. David, Uncle Preeda, and I got lunch from McDonalds (drive thru!) cause Nat wanted a McFlurry – her prize for winning Monopoly last night.
In the afternoon, David moved our ping pong table out to get some exercise. We finally had a break from rain today. The sun was out for most of the day which was nice.
Dinner: chili mac. Nat helped David make dinner today. It came out really good!
CV19 Quarantine Day 4
I think we’re starting to establish a decent routine now. When I tell Nat to wake up at 9:00am, she’s getting up and out with less of a struggle. David and I keep busy most of the day with our work, at least we have that. Nat says she has a list of things she plans to do, and so far it seems like she has been “doing”. Today she cleaned her room and did several workouts. Tyler read, did some math, worked on some seeds he planted, and then played video games.
Just before lunch, David went to the grocery store today (Trader Joes and Sprouts). There were lines to get into both stores. Not because it was busy, but because the store was managing inside traffic for social distancing. Between both stores, it took him 2 hours end to end. He said both stores were decently stocked with food and he was able to get almost everything on our list with the exception of 1 or 2 things.
School lunch is the same. Tyler picked teriyaki chicken today and Nat picked spicy chicken sandwich. Both came home with breakfast burritos again.
In the evening while waiting for dinner to stew, David, Nat, and I participated in an online live Yoga class. It was about an hour and kicked our butt! It felt good to exercise though.
Dinner: Beef stew and rice
After dinner, we played Monopoly and Natalie won.
CV19 Quarantine Day 3
It’s only Day 3! I had a productive morning working with nearly back to back meetings from 9am til lunch. Nat got a bit organized with her AP World History class. They are preparing to start teaching the class online. Tyler struggled to focus this morning. I’m not sure what he really did…
Today’s school lunch also came with a breakfast for tomorrow, though we ate it today. Tyler chose a cheeseburger again and Nat chose a spicy chicken sandwich. The lunch came with sliced apples, a cutie, and celery sticks. The breakfast bags had breakfast burritos (these were good!) and orange juice.
Nat did several workouts today and Tyler played basketball outside and ran around with Uncle Preeda.
In the afternoon Nat baked these Kringle cookies. They’re really good! Nat and David also went to the strip mall nearby and Natalie practiced driving around the lot. I guess it’s a good time to practice driving now with few cars out on the roads.
Tonight’s dinner: Salmon, rice, left over gai-lan, left over bok choy, and salad
CV19 Quarantine Day 2
This morning, Tyler finished his week 1 packet of school work provided by the school district and Nat finished her drivers ed online course. Most of the day was spent on their devices and Tyler played outside for a bit. Nat and I also made a Tik Tok video.
Meet Philippe, our new fiddle leaf tree. We acquired him last Friday from a plant wholesaler. He’s suppose to be easy to take care of…
Nat’s school is giving out free lunch to anyone under 18. David drove both kids to pick up lunch today. Tyler chose a cheeseburger. Nat chose chicken teriyaki. The lunch also came with chocolate milk, a banana, and raisins.
Tonight’s dinner – chicken pho
CV19 Quarantine Day 1
Monday, March 16th.
Today is Day 1 of no school and work from home for all of us together. I warned the kids over the weekend they would have to wake up at an early time and do some school work in the morning. This morning did not go so well. Nat was unwilling to wake up and Tyler was unwilling to do any school work.
Somehow, after lunch, Natalie decided to do some exercise and clean the dining room and part of the living room. I was in total shock!
In the afternoon though, Nat took a very long nap and Tyler started learning about stock trading with Uncle Preeda.
For dinner, I made fried rice. We are stocked for about 2 weeks of meals.
This is a historical moment we are living through. The stock market dropped nearly 3,000 points today. The worst 1 day drop in HISTORY.
Hope everyone stays healthy and safe!
Merced
2/23/20
Aunt Amanda invited us out to Merced to check out her blossoming almond trees. Each year when the trees blossom, it only lasts about a week or so. We were lucky to have a free weekend and catch the blossoms just at the right time. The flowers were very pretty!
The kids had fun playing in the orchard and riding the ATV.
Happy 12th Kaiya
2/20/2020
We met the Chiu cousins at a pizza place in Burlingame to celebrate Kaiya’s 12th birthday. Nat made her this cake.
