Seattle 2019 Day 2

10/13/19

After a quick breakfast at our hotel, we headed out to our first stop of the day: Gas Works Park. The park has sweeping views of the Seattle skyline and is part of the National Register of Historical Places.

Nearby was Theo Chocolates. A cute chocolate store and factory. We were thinking of taking the factory tour but it required a reservation and we missed it so we tasted a variety of their chocolates and bought some to take home.

On a street near the chocolate store was a street fair, so we went to check it out. Nat got some cookie dough to snack on.

Lunch: Pizza at Serious Pie

After lunch, we had ice cream floats at Shug’s Soda Fountain

We walked around and shopped at tourist shops. Nat and Ty got some stickers.

In the afternoon, we booked a Segway tour. It was our first time trying this and Tyler was very excited. We were the only family booked for the afternoon tour so it was a private tour for us. The instructor teaches you how to safely ride the Segway and then we got to practice on a parking lot nearby.

Unfortunately, about 10 minutes into our tour, our tour guide pulled over and was sick. He had a seizure and we called 911. The fire department came and he eventually came back around, but it was pretty scary. We had to go back to the shop after this and they gave a us a refund. Tyler was so bummed not to continue the tour. Hopefully we can try again next time.

Walking around Pike Place Market

Walking around the waterfront

For dinner, we ate at a restaurant called The Pink Door. It’s a restaurant hidden in an alley way with no signs and just a pink door to enter. We waited about 2 hours for a table. The restaurant is really nice and had live entertainment.

Favorite part of the day:

Nat – walking around and shopping at the tourist shops

Me, David, and Tyler – Segway. Even though it was short, it was fun!

It was a fun and short weekend. We head home tomorrow morning!

Seattle 2019 Day 1

10/12/19

A few weeks ago, Alaska Airlines had a one day airfare sale so I took a look and found a good deal on flights to Seattle. It happened that this weekend was Columbus Day weekend and neither Nat or Ty had volleyball or major school events, so I booked us a weekend getaway. Nat really wanted to go to Seattle again. She says its one of her favorite places!

Our flight to Seattle was very early. We arrived around 8:45am in the morning, picked up our rental car and started our day with breakfast at a place called Biscuit Bitch in Pioneer Square. It’s a popular chain in Seattle and there was a line out the door.

Next stop: UPS Waterfall Garden Park. A secluded (and small) man made waterfall that marks the location of the first UPS building.

Volunteer Park & Conservatory
This was a place Nat found on the internet. It’s a really nice park with botanical gardens and a conservatory.

Amazon Spheres. This place is so cool. Built for Amazon employees, its a different place employees can work and lounge. It’s open to the public two weekends a month. Unfortunately, this weekend wasn’t one of them. After seeing the spheres, Nat said she wants to work for Amazon. Nearby is also an Amazon Go store. There are several in Seattle being tested. It’s a convenience store with no registers or check outs. You just have an app, grab what you want, and leave. The app later sends you a receipt for your purchases. We tried this out and bought a few snacks and drinks. Tyler was fascinated by the concept.

From Amazon, we walked over to Pike Place Market and snacked at several places.

Beecher’s Mac n Cheese. The four of us shared a large cup. It was so good!

Ellenos Greek Yogurt. The marionberry pie flavor was tasty!

Can’t go to Seattle and not visit the Gumwall!

In the late afternoon, we checked into our hotel and rested. We did a lot of walking today.

For dinner, we dined at The Brooklyn Seafood, Steak & Oyster House followed by gelato at a nearby ice cream place. Unfortunately, pics from dinner were lost as my phone was reset due to technical issues 🙁

Favorite part of the day:

Nat & David: walking about Pike Place Market

Tyler: Amazon Go store

Me: Dinner. David and I shared oysters, crab cakes, and bouillabaisse. Everything was really good.

Hello Kitty 45th Anniversary

Los Angeles hosted Hello Kitty’s 45th Birthday with a Friends Around The World Tour. Nat and I got tickets for last Saturday and it was super fun!

We got matching shirts for the event

There was a Hello Kitty Toyota van parked outside. We got to take pictures inside.
