Summer Vacation 2023 Day 0-1

This year for our summer vacation, we’re heading to Toronto & Montreal. It’s the kids & my first time to Canada but not David’s. He’s been to Vancouver. The trip started out very stressful. 14 hours before our flight was set to depart (which was supposed to be Sunday morning at 6:15 am), we were notified that our flight was cancelled!! About about an hour later we got another notification that we were rebooked for a new flight but it was much later with a connection in New York and we would lose a day/night in Toronto. So David called the airline and after about 2 hours, he was able to get us booked on Saturday night with a red eye flight connecting via Nashville. With the accelerated schedule, we rushed to pack and got to the airport with time to get in a quick dinner.

First Year Done

Nat’s first year of college is complete! The year went by fast. We drove down to SLO and moved her out of her dorm today. She had a lot of stuff! She had a fun first year of school and made lots of new friends, joined a sorority, and got a job on campus.

Before moving out, we had lunch at a Japanese restaurant in downtown SLO

The car was completely full!

Wileen Got Married

Wileen and James finally got married! We’ve all been waiting for this day for a long time. From the moment they got engaged, we’ve been excited for the wedding day to come! Their wedding was in the San Diego area at a venue called Ethereal Gardens. It was a beautiful place for a wedding! Since the wedding was “away”, it felt like a mini family vacation, which was nice.

We all had a wonderful time celebrating and catching up with family and old friends. Congratulations Wileen and James!

There was a tea ceremony before the main event for the uncles and aunties

Nat helped manage the sign in table along with Uncle Preeda

Every seat was filled.

Sadly, this was the only picture the four of us took together the entire weekend!

Cousin’s Bachelorette

3/25/23

Cousin Wileen had a cousin’s bachelorette and Nat was invited too. She’s part of the big girl’s club now. We spent a day in Carmel at a couple of wineries. The weather was perfect and it was a perfect day for being outdoors, enjoying wine and good company. We’re all excited for Wileen’s big day!

Golf Tournament Weekend

Tyler played his first golf tournament of the year last weekend in Monterey. It was a 2 day tournament so we stayed a night in Monterey. It was cold and it rained on Saturday, but he enjoyed playing.

Luckily he got an umbrella for his golf cart. He was still very wet by the end of the day though

After the game ended, we went to Pebble Beach to get him a birthday present

Hole 18 at Pebble Beach. This golf course is absolutely stunning!

We also drove the famous 17-mile drive

Day 2

He ended up placing 13 out of 29 in his age group. I thought he did really well but he was disappointed. He really wanted to be in the top 10

Happy 17th Tyler

Happy 17th birthday Tyler!

We celebrated with a low key dinner at a Thai restaurant nearby with Uncle Chubber and Daniel. Tyler skipped a birthday party with friends so he could prepare for his golf tournament the next day. At 17, Tyler is driving and living his best life playing golf all the time. His favorite food is still pho, but poke and Chipotle are a close 2nd.

A Funeral

David’s Uncle passed away a few weeks ago. He was old and his health has been declining but it was still tough to hear the news when we did. He will be missed.

While this wasn’t the first time N & T have been to a funeral, it’s the first major family one in their memory. Tyler was particularly interested in all the rituals that took place.

Lots of family gathering at Grandma’s house throughout the weekend

Celebration Day

Friday was a special day for these two. Tyler passed his driving test and it was David’s birthday. We celebrated with a nice dinner at a greek restaurant in Palo Alto.

Tyler said the driving test was easy

He passed with a 95/100!

Happy birthday David

Chinese New Year 2023

It’s the year of the rabbit. We spent the weekend in LA celebrating CNY with family. On Saturday, we went over to David’s parents house for lunch. We prayed, we ate, and we had a good time. In the evening, we went back to Popo and Gong Gong’s house for a family dinner. So much food! We even had late night burritos and nachos after!

We celebrated David’s birthday (early) with his family

The kids got a lot of hong baos!

Covid Christmas

David and I got Covid a week before Christmas and had to quarantine in our room. The kids cooked for us the first few days. Luckily they’re old enough to take care of themselves now. They were bored and a few days before Christmas, we tested them (negative) and they rode to LA with Uncle J so they could have some fun. Unfortunately on Christmas Eve, Tyler wasn’t feeling well so I got them tickets to fly home on Christmas morning. Then their flight was cancelled and they got stuck at the Burbank airport for over 8 hours because of the Southwest airlines meltdown. After multiple rebookings, luckily they made it home.

Always little kids. Curious what presents they have.

Excited to unload their stockings

Frustrated Tyler. Finally made it home
