The day started with a traditional tea ceremony at “Carl’s house.” Another house on the property with amazing views of the cove. It’s nice to see traditions carried on even with inter-racial marriages.
In between the tea ceremony and the American ceremony we had a few hours so a bunch of people went down to the water’s edge to dig for clams and geoducks. There was lots of sea life including shrimp and crabs. They came back with a bucket of clams and a geoduck which we boiled and ate. Very fresh!
The wedding ceremony was in an area called the big tree field. Just as the procession was about to start, it started to sprinkle. As the ceremony started, a light and steady rain came down. The officiant of the wedding powered through it. David and I were 1 of 3 couples to give offer some words on marriage advice during the ceremony. During our speech, the rain stopped briefly.
The reception was in the barn. Nat and I dressed the part by wearing boots!
Favorite part of the day:
Tyler: Geoduck hunting (and catching one)
Nat: Walking along the shore searching for sand dollars
David: Geoduck hunting
Me: Giving our speech. I’ve been working on my public speaking skills and this was a good test.
